Club Information

Chislehurst Millennium Swim Squads is a small, friendly swimming club which was formed in January 2000 and is based in the Bromley, Chislehurst and Orpington areas of Kent. Most of the Club’s members are drawn from these areas.  Training sessions are undertaken at Bromley High School pool, located in Bickley near Bromley, and St Olave’s School pool and the Walnuts Leisure Centre pool, both located in Orpington.

Chislehurst Millennium Swim Squads provides swimming training for children who are already able to swim the main strokes.  There is a group and squad system operating within the Club as follows:

  • Teaching and Development Group for those who can swim the main strokes in a basic manner and who are building stamina and learning the competitive skills of swimming.

  • Junior Club Squad for those children who have built some stamina and skills but who do not wish to take part in competitive galas.

  • Junior Competitive Squad for those swimmers who have mastered some competitive skills and can cope with a longer training session.  Swimmers in this squad can also be selected for inter-club galas.

  • Intermediate Squad for children who are training two or three times per week, have good competitive skills and who take part in inter-club or open galas.  Swimmers in this squad can also achieve County times or above.

  • Senior Squad for those swimmers who have achieved a high level of fitness, train three to four times per week, take part in inter-club and open galas and are capable of achieving County times and above.

During the course of each year the Club participates in friendly inter-club galas with other clubs located in the north west Kent area.

Also, swimmers in the Club are placed into one of three houses:  Mars, Jupiter and Saturn.  Siblings are placed together in the same house.  Rivalry between the houses takes the form of internal competitive events and each swimmer has the chance to support their house.  At the end of year social event each year a “House” trophy is presented to the winning house.  There are also club trophies awarded for various achievements throughout the year.

 Message for coach Jenny

Subject: Message for coach Jenny

Hi

I'm not sure who I am speaking to as secretary now - when my daughter, Jade, swam with Millennium Squads 3 years ago it would have been Stephanie Giles but I'm sure she stepped down after we emigrated to Canada.
Maybe you remember me - Jane Scognamillo (?)

I was hoping to get a message to Jenny - Jade's old Millennium Squads coach. I thought she (and some of Jade's old team mates who I notice are still at the club) may be interested to know that Jade, whom Jenny coached from the age of 9, will be swimming solo 19.2km on July 12th 2008 across Lake Erie, one of the North American Great Lakes, starting in the USA and finishing in Canada. She is doing this in support of a world famous Toronto hospital, Sick Kids. She will set a new record as the youngest ever swimmer of Lake Erie and maybe even break the time record too - it should take her around 8-9 hours non-stop.

When I see Jade swim 6.5km in 1hr 52mins in training now, it's hard to remember her as a little girl just 5 years ago, thrashing and splashing her way through a 25m sprint!

You can see Jade on the Aspirants page of www.soloswims.com and on the Sick kids website as a fund raiser if you are interested in more info.

I wish Millennium Squads all the best and hope all your swimmers are having fun and fulfilling all their sporting dreams!

Jane Scognamillo

 Message from Jane

Event resultsJane writes "Hi everyone A final email to say that we believe we have secured all the boats needed for the swim this Saturday and the weather looks good (just a little windy), so Jade will be swimming across Lake Erie starting between 7 and 8am. Some of you may have heard about Natalie Lambert's swim across Lake Erie a few days ago. Jade IS YOUNGER than Natalie, so is still on for that record, plus Jade is hoping to break Natalie's new time record of 7 hrs 47 mins - she is hoping for closer to 7 hours, depending on the weather. There will be TV coverage, so watch out for Jade on Global and possibly CTV news Saturday evening. You can follow Jade's progress on her website (www.jadeswim4life.com )during the morning - we hope to update it every couple of hours to keep our world-wide supporters who cannot be with us on Crystal Beach up to date. Thank you to all Jade's supporters, volunteers, donors and well-wishers. It will be an exciting day! Jane"
